Get It Together 2007
10:15pm 31/12/2006
Most of my resolutions are interconnected. The overall, basic resolution for this year is to “get it together”. What this means is that I want to get my life together, I would like to be a better person. Of course, I guess that is why we make resolutions. Lately I have been rather unhappy and highly stressed; I attribute the majority of this to our slightly disorganized lives and lack of self-discipline.
This “main heading” can be broken down further into smaller, more targeted resolutions. Specific aspects of my life or personality that I wish to change. These “sub-categories” are as follows: Physical, Family, Mental, and Financial. Even some of those can be (and will be) further defined. We’ll start with the physical things I want to change as they are easiest.

Resist the urge to call me crazy when I express my desire to get in shape and take better care of my body. I’m sure you have seen my pictures by now and know that I’m a skinny thing. However, the goal is not to lose weight but to get my body in shape. Also, to eat more healthily as I am an avid eater of junk foods. This is a bad influence on my kids. Since gym memberships are pricey (over an accumulation of months) and I know I would never “find time” to go anyways, I’ve decided to buy some exercise equipment. No treadmill, I can just take a walk with the boys for that. My hopes are to not only look better but to feel better and have more energy to help combat my children. Also, maybe Justin will take some cues from me and get himself into shape.

This leads me directly into the familial aspect of my resolutions. I want to be a better mother and wife. My children need my attention, I should not just let them veg out and watch TV all day just because it’s easy. The boys and I will take walks and go to the park so they can get some much needed exercise. We will all read together at night before bed, as my parents used to do with me. Also, they need to have a stronger hygiene regimen. Baths, hair brushing, and face washing will be made nightly activities; teeth must be brushed twice a day. Kyran will probably just eat the toothbrush, but I can always try. Heather will learn some independence by choosing clothes for the next day before she goes to sleep, assisting with dinner, and washing dishes. Since Kyran isn’t quite two, his only real responsibility will be clearing his plate and taking his toys to his room.

Being a better wife will, without a doubt, be one of my most challenging resolutions. Not because I don’t want to be, but because I’d like to believe that I don’t need to be. Nagging my husband and provoking fights are two of my favorite things to do after all! Seriously, I need to quit using words like never, always, can’t and try* when we argue. When I am angry I should attempt to maintain my composure and approach the situation as maturely as possible. Although I am a stay at home mom I regularly neglect my duties. The house should be clean and dinner fixed, regardless of how I feel physically or mentally.

Don’t you like how I segue into each topic? Pretty neat huh? Anyways, mentally, I would like to make more use of my brain. I guess that sounds pretty redundant. My plan is to use books to enhance my mind. I love to read and since I’ve taken up knitting there hasn’t been much reading. There used to be books piled upon books next to my bed. Now, I will settle for completing two books in a month’s time. One will be for fun and the other will be an educational, non-fictional book. I think I’m going to read up on criminal psychology, and of course knitting. That’s right; any books that describe knitting technique or other people’s experiences with knitting (as long as it’s non-fiction!) will fit the terms. Good thing I have a library card, otherwise that would cut into my budget.

Which, naturally, is part of my financial resolution. The hard part will be getting Justin to commit to it as well. I can control myself as much as I would like, but if he spends freely…well then it’s pointless. We’ll have to draw up a budget on paper, keeping in mind miscellaneous expenditures. Then get out only the amount of cash we can spend for the week, when it’s gone, it’s gone. Also, writing up a menu for the month will enable me to create a grocery list containing only the foods we need. This will allow me to shop more productively and frugally. It also means *gulp* cutting back on yarn purchases. To help me with this I joined a stash-a-long, spanning nine months. I’m pretty sure I’ve got enough yarn to last me nine months, if not, there’s always sock yarn! Besides, I’ll be spinning.

The other part of my financial resolution is to try making some money. I’m going to probably just sell some hand-dyed yarn and some hand knit socks on eBay or etsy. Maybe a few hats, and baby socks (or booties) too. I know the kitty hats sell pretty well.

I’m going to basically write up my resolutions for myself, as a reminder and make a few copies. One copy for my bedroom, one for the kitchen (on the fridge), and one for my workspace. These will serve as constant reminders to stay on target. I hope. While Stephanie might skip the planning step, I’ve always been good at planning. It’s the execute part I have a problem with. The plans will have basic guidelines and rules set out and they will be set right out where I can see them. Of course, I’ll have to also post encouraging notes for myself. Maybe even a calendar with quotes. I don’t know.

*Justin finds the word “try” to be passive aggressive and prefers the usage of the word “do”

I could be uhhh Trish, she always wore wigs anyway.

About Me
10:35am 01/11/2006

mood: sick
1. My name is Crystal, I hate it.
2. I was born December 9th, yay winter babies!
3. My baby brother, Daniel, is a very important part of my life.
4. Last year my parents and brother moved back to Georgia, and I miss them.
5. I've had many nicknames, none of which have ever been cat or kitty, I just tell people that. The most common one is Tickle, it's a silly story.
6. My home will always be Maryland. I was born and raised there, love it, and it hold a special place in my heart. That said, I'm quite happy down here in North Carolina with my hubby and kids.
7. I met my best friend in preschool, we're still best friends.
8. As I remember it I was crying on the big turtle because my friends had all gone home.
9. Jamie (best friend) is in Florida now.
10. In my junior year of high school we moved from Maryland to Georgia and back again.
11. When I was little my Granny used to read to me, I still love to read to this day.
12. I took tap and ballet when I was little, although I look like I'm built for it, I was awful!
13. I look younger than I am, and act older. So my age tends to be a mystery.
14. My initials are tattooed on my stomach.
15. I moved to North Carolina to be with my husband in August of 2004.
16. Ironically, my husband lived about 20 minutes away from me before he joined the Marine Corps. Had he gone to public school he'd have been in the same school as my first boyfriend.
17. We met online (yes this actually works, but it makes for a lame story) after another Marine stood me up.
18. He proposed to me a month later. My parents were okay with it.
19. I told myself I would NEVER marry a military man.
20. I'm a cat person.
21. My dad stole my favorite cat, Romeo, and Hobbes lives with us.
22. I think that the East Coast is the best place to live.
23. I have a good memory, and though my husband knows this he still argues with me about it.
24. My family is mostly located in Maryland, though they are all over the East Coast.
25. If I have a question about movies I ask my husband.
26. I will never argue with him that he is wrong (about movies), unless I'm 100% sure I'm right.
27. I've never been cool.
28. I'm happy with that.
29. When we have more money I'm going to cosmetological school for hair and make-up.
30. I'd love to be a make-up artist.
31. Making people feel beautiful is important to me, when you feel good about what is outside you can feel good about the inside too.
32. People worry too much about looks.
33. Hubby is very supportive of whatever I want to do.
34. I got married on December 22,2003. Poor husband.
35. Heather was born January 26, 2003; Kyran - February 11, 2005; Nolan - August 9, 2006
36. I don't want a ceremony, just the reception and honeymoon!
37. One day I might get them.
38. Movies are great, but I hate movie theaters.
39. Sunday through Tuesday my evenings are taken up by TV. Dexter, Heroes, Weeds, and Nip/Tuck.
40. I also watch Law & Order, Forensic Files, and Cold Case Files. Notice a trend?
41. Right now, I'd love to have any job aside from SAHM.
42. Although I love my kids, it's a high stress, pro-bono, 24/7 job. I deserve a break!
43. Retail would be okay, I'm friendly and love to talk.
44. Justin (hubby) became deployable in July 2006.
45. They plan on deploying for the first time in January 2007.
46. I cross my fingers that they won't go.
47. However, I'm very proud of him. His squadron is pioneering the field of tilt-rotors in military use. (or something like that)
48. He might complain but he loves his job.
49. That's what I respect about him.
50. I'm not into politics at all, I don't really even watch the news. It depresses me.
51. Some of my pet peeves: people who can't speak proper English, people who tYpE lIkE ThIs, and people who don't take responsibility for their actions. (There are more....)
52. We have a 2001 Chrysler Town & Country, a 1994 Pontiac Bonneville, and my husband's Harley. I rolled our Explorer....
53. I taught myself to knit in December 2005.
54. It was a more portable hobby than sewing, and I could do it in the living room with the kids.
55. After that, I searched for local yarn shops, and found there was one around the corner!
56. Since about March of 2006 I have been knitting like crazy, and love it!
57. Often I design my own patterns with help from my LYS owner, a calculator and other various sources.
58. My knitting blog started in March 2006.
59. Blogging is a really great way to find other people who have similar interests.
60. I'm into a lot of stuff: sewing, drawing, Renaissance Festivals, Anime/Manga...to name a few.
61. Hubby is also into drawing and anime. He likes anime for it's artistic side. And plays LOTS of video games.
62. I like pictures, and have a lot of them.
63. Don't ask to see them unless you have plenty of free time.
64. I have spent over two years of my life pregnant.
65. Love my babies, hate being pregnant.
66. My husband says that I'm a mountain of wasted talent.
67. I'm not sure if that's a compliment or not.
68. The only sport I like to watch is Baseball.
69. My husband is a huge Red Sox fan, even though he's not from Boston.
70. I like to watch the game while my show is on commercial, and text him the score.
71. Baseball season is like...my husband's menstrual cycle.

I started one so I wouldn't bother all you lovely people with my knitting. :P

If you wanna see what I've been making, go ahead and visit.

St Patty's day was HILARIOUS! Justin was so drunk he fell when he got out of the car! lmfao

We were up til like 4am.

I was knitting at this party we went to. I figured, if I couldn't get drunk I should really preoccupy myself otherwise so I didn't want to just leave. ugh Then the cops came and what not. boo We went back to the house and played cards and had fun. Good times.

Thank god Heather is with my parents. I have been sleeping in until like 11. It's fantastic!! Kyran is just this little lump that hangs out all day. Except he was feeling yucky yesterday due to teething. Poor babe.

Okay. So, I finished my first hat, yay! One step closer to knitting that cheshire kitty hat!

It turned out beautifully except for a few loose stitches in the back because I really needed to use DPNs and didn't have any. That's okay. I'll pick some up for Jamie's hat. The yarn is gorgeous and I LOVEEEE it. If I hadn't said so already.

So...I don't know if you guys wanna know about Vegas or not. I'll sum it up for you.

Longggg trip. Got up at 5:45am (eastern) and didn't sleep til about 1am (also eastern).

Finally met Brandon. He's like a 16 year old. He sniffed his girlfriend's hoodie...who does that?! bleh Couldn't drink. Boo.

The last night I finally got to go to a club the night before we left. Had to go alone because mom didn't want to. Whatev. Anyway got go up on the stage. At one point the guy handling the lights asked if I was going to be back the next night because he wanted to put me on the guest list for some thing with MTV. Too bad I wasn't. Ego boost anyway.

Then longgg trip back.

Then longgg trip to Maryland.

God I miss that place. We were there for a couple of days. Couldn't get online so I couldn't get in touch with half the people I wanted to call. But I got to see Steve. YAY STEVE! lol

Now I'm home. The End.

Okay...I leave for Vegas on Saturday! I'll be there for about a week, but I'll probaly have internet access. This is gonna be fun...or it better be. lol And I'll bring back gifts and pictures for all!!! YAYYYYYY!!!

Justin and the kids ought to be in Maryland while I'm away. So if you're up there drop them a line. Hopefully I'll be getting around that way soon enough.

Also...looking into going to school back home too. Don't know how we're going to do it, but it would definitely make me happy. There's nothing I would like to do more than to go to school. Okay...well maybe working and not taking care of little ones all day...but isn't that part of the school thing?

mood: excited
I was going to update about something. But I forgot. So...Kyran can walk now. YAY! And his first birthday is Saturday.

Oh!! I remember now. I was going to babble on and on about my ideas for renfest this year!! Which is not only totally boring and irrelevant to those of you reading, but also totally silly. Considering that I will be preggers until Sep. and we are going in Oct. That means, of course, my body will be slightly out of whack and I will want to hide it. I think though, that I will hit a gym as soon as I can after I have this baby. *sigh*

Anyway, happier things. The place in the UK that makes the really awesome sock poi that I liked finally replied to my e-mail. The owner sent me some basic instructions for making some sock poi. I'm very excited about this, moreso even than the rest of the costume. And I don't know why. Maybe it's because I miss spinning. So I might make those sooner than the rest of the costume. I'm also planning on making the hacky sacks to put inside of the poi. Which will help me practice my knitting. Then I can make the cheshire kitty hat for me and Mali.

I also am going to dye my hair blue-ish/turquoise. You should let me know which color you like better:

the turquoise

or the blue?

I'm going to bleach my hair for this. A first for me. But I want it to come out well. Whatever I decide will be the basic idea for the shade of blue for like...my entire costume. lol Because the color theme is blue and brown. Which was a very popular color combo last summer, so maybe I will get lucky and find some cute things for my costume. Also, I plan on doing extensive henna tattooing for this as well. Ought to be interesting. The only thing I'm not sure of, is how I will make the wings. They are going to be too small, that's why I hang out with goblin/faeries, and I'm very flighty. Anyway, the character is not important right now. I think I'm gonna try to find strong but thin wire at home depot. Then some cheap pretty fabric at hancocks. I'm gonna have to find a way to actually sew them into my costume top, I don't wanna worry about anchoring them or them getting in the way. That was the big problem last year. So I thought that this would be a clever way to avoid that.

I LOVE RENFEST! This will be my first time at the TRF...and I want to go alllllll out! *does happy dance*

  The Lovers Card
You are the Lovers card. The Lovers card is about

union. Each of us carries in our DNA the

ability to be the opposite of what we think

we are. Often our romantic attachments grow

out of awe and respect as we see in another

the characteristics we repress in ourselves.

Society often presses us into molds of what

it thinks masculinity and femininity should

be. As a result, many of us associate with

our gender certain positive characteristics

and call others negative, when if these same

qualities were held by a person of the

opposite sex, our attitude towards them would

be reversed. Getting in touch with our inner

animus and anima, (Jung's terms for our inner

male and female), allows us to see the whole

of our personalities in a positive and

constructive light. When you draw The Lovers

card in a reading, you are working with

balancing these forces. Depending on where

the card is, you have either achieved balance

or need to. The Lovers could indicate a

romantic or even a platonic relationship. Ask

yourself is this is a positive relationship

that contributes to your growth as a complete

human being, or if it fills an emotional

craving within you that is actually

detrimental to your personal growth. Image
